SNDS Magazine no. 1, 2010 – Mads Nissen's photo nominated in the category "Opening Spread – Photo".
A front page showing an illustration by Politiken's Philip Ytournel and an opening spread with a photo by Berlingske's Mads Nissen have been nominated in a competition for magazine design, initiated by a new Danish organization – MDID – Magazine Designers in Denmark.
__These entries were just two out of a total of 159 in the first of hopefully a long series of competitions. 16 judges – graphic designers, illustrators and design specialists from the Danish world of magazines – gave their marks on Saturday, May 28.
__"We wanted to establish a jury with a variety as big as possible," says Niels Bøje Ziegler, one of the initiators of the organization and the competition. "We don't want a small group of people to decide which designs are the best in Denmark".
__Next year, the organizers hope to have many more entries for the competition. This year some of the 23 categories had only a few entries (some only one) – and as a consequence, these categories will not have a winner.
__In the large categories, however, the quality was really good – "Opening Spreads", "Magazine Front Page" and "Whole Story" showed some very interesting entries.
__The final results will be revealed November 8, but the nominees (the three entries with the highest score for each category) can be seen at grafiskkollegium.dk/mdid – and here you can also sign up to be a member in this young organization.
__Editor and art director of SNDS Magazine, Lars Pryds, was one of the 16 judges. He could, of course, not vote for 'his' own magazine, so there was no cheating here :-)
