The winners of the "Best of Scandinavian News Design 2010" competition are now online on snds.org – a total of 89 winners. 17 awards went to Danish entries, 16 to Finland, 24 to Norway, and 32 to entries from media in Sweden. 68 of the awards were given in the print categories, which is the base of the competition.21 awards in the online categories – a rise from 12 given last year – reflects the fact that the online part of the competition attracted a record number of entries this year. In the new addition to the categories – "Mobile media" – three winners were awarded.
For the first time in several years, no Gold winner was found this year. Even though the nature of the awards beyond the Awards of Excellence will not be revealed until the seminar in April, only Silver, Bronze and Excellence will be given.

Personally, yours truely will bring home a diploma this year, when the winners are awarded at the SNDS conference in Oslo on April 22-24. At Berlingske Nyhedsmagasin (BNY), we illustrated a series of articles about the fading market for advertising with empty "holes" for ads on the pages, actually making the printer call us in panic, saying that the ads were missing! So, the gimmick worked! And the SNDS judges thought the idea worthy of an Award of Excellence.
Here are the pages, made in cooperation with sub-editor Lars Wang and published in BNY on December 11, 2009. See also the article, "Fornem pris til BNY" on bny.dk
It is worth noticing, that usually we have real ads blending in over this many pages, but in more ways than one, these were ad free articles!
