Work in progress for the solo exhibition

One month and one week to the opening of my solo show in Galleri Lisse Bruun - and the paintings are on therir way! A lot of finishing touches still remain, though, and a lot of framing, too. Here is an example of work in progress - photographed on my studio floor.

B/W poster design

Sometimes I wish we were back in the good old days, when everything was in black and white – newspapers, movies, television, etc. etc. So when once in a while, big movie companies make a poster like this one for Rocky Balboa (released in Denmark January 5, 2007) in black and white, I love it. Here's my tribute to the simple, yet beautiful poster.

Lillebæltsbroen - or a sculpture?

This is not a piece of modern art, although it certainly looks like a steel sculpture. It is part of the old bridge over Lillebælt, which we crossed in slow motion yesterday on our way to Jylland. The summer traffic made going by the motorway hopeless, so we thought taking the old road would be faster. What we did not know was that the bridge was only open in one lane (due to a maintainance painting of the construction), so there were plenty of time to enjoy the view, and to stop to take pictures. It took us almost half an hour to pass the old steel bridge, only 1.178 m long. No risk getting a speed ticket here ...
The beautiful old bridge (Den Gamle Lillebæltsbro) was built from 1929 to 1935, replacing the ferry between Snoghøj and Strib. The combined road and railway bridge is still the only way to get from Jylland to Fyn (or vice versa) by foot, bicycle, or train. The new bridge across the Lillebælt (opened 1970) is a 6 lane motorway only bridge.

Galleri V58 summer exhibition

Remember - all summer it is possible to see some of my paintings at Galleri V58, Vestergade 58, Århus. Unlike most galleries in Denmark, V58 is open during the summer months (although only three days a week), and on show will be various works by the gallery's artists. Among them, new works on canvas - see two of them here.
More info at www.galleriv58.dk or click the image to see opening hours etc.

Macbook without an "Å"

Anybody else out there with an A on the Danish keyboard instead of an Å? Last year, I bought a brand new slick black MacBook - and the "Å" key is without the circle. It works fine, and I thought it was a funny specialty, so I never complained, but I guess someone somewhere at Apple Denmark should have noticed. Or maybe this one just avoided the Danish spell check before being shipped ...
PS. No, I did not remove the circle in Photoshop. No, I did not use the "Å" key so much it was worn off, and No, I did not just notice today. It did take me a few minutes, though ...

My friend, naked

For many years, my best and oldest friend, jørgen ole, has closed down his graphic design studio grafisk værksted for the summer holidays with a yellow postcard (m65 format) announcing the dates. For the last 18 years, on the card has been a drawing of him, by me. This year, I'm proud to say, is no exeption.
The job has always been a very simple one, yet with a few very precise demands for the execution of the drawing: It must include: jørgen ole's portrait (face or full body), the words "grafisk værksted" or "grafisk" or "ABC", and a Danish flag. And since - well I'm not sure since when, but it is certainly years ago - the drawing has been made under influence of a glass of wine - the last glass of the evening, actually.
When I scan and send off the drawing, it's not just another job done - every year it's a surprise to see the card, always the same yellow cardboard, but always with jørgen ole's brilliant, poetic play with words, describing the ever changing reason for going on vacation. Thanks, jørgen ole, for always being so quirky. You're an artist with letters - in more than one way.
This year's drawing is the first to show the good old graphic artist as his god created him - stark naked. Hope you get that kite to fly, old friend! And there are even two flags - one on the kite and one as a tattoo on the right leg ...
